The United States have the world’s largest deposits of coal. These are spread between several places however, most of which are actually in the plains rather than mountains, with the exception of the “eastern province”, which is mainly located on the western slopes of the Appalachians. There are many other coal-rich regions throughout the world, however many of them aren’t in the mountains either, including the large Kuznetsk Basin in Russia (southwestern Siberia). The coal region in Western Canada is located in the Rocky Mountains, however, and also boasts large coal deposits.
