A hospital’s waste is showing to be a large problem. There is a protocol for medical waste disposal in more developed countries. Different classifications of waste are segregated and depending on contamination or chemical content waste is quarantined. But less developed countries aren’t organized for proper disposal; it is mixed with standard municipal waste, contaminating soil and water supplies.
Regardless of methods of disposal there is a problem of building quantities of medical waste that cannot be incinerated and cannot be recycled because of chemical make-up and contamination of dangerous pathogens. Until we can find a way to safely re-use or eliminate this waste it will continue to build.
