The most critically endangered species of tiger is the South China Tiger. It is said that the South China Tiger is “functionally extinct”. Less than 50 live in China’s 18 zoos and it is unknown if any live in the wild.
Tigerlily11 is correct in that the South China Tiger is the most threatened tiger subspecies. The second most threatened tiger is the Sumatran Tiger. It too is listed as “Critically Endangered” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Redlist. They only live on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, which means they have a small range. They are also threatened by poachers, despite the punishment associated with hurting these tigers.
