According to Europeangeostrategy.ideasoneurope.eu the most powerful country in the world in 2012 is The United States. The reason for this is that it is considered a ‘Superpower’ because it has systematic power in almost every continent, a top-tier industrial economy, a comprehensive global military footprint, as well as global cultural attraction.

After the United States, the Eurpoean Union and China are considered potential superpowers in the following decade, but that depends on the political and economic reforms that take place in the years to come.

If you are simply talking about which country can throw it weight around economically, militarily, and domestically, it would probably be the United States of America. As mentioned above, it is considered the remaining superpower after the economic collapse of the Soviet Union, but China is nipping at its heels as a powerhouse of its own, surging forward in the wake of its fairly recent industrial revolution. The USA is also partly responsible for making English the most widespread language in the world, and the unofficial language of international business, as much of the world’s economy ties into the American one. There may be a change in the guard in the decades to come, however. Only time will tell.
