The Mississippi River. Over 500 million pounds of toxic materials were dumped in the river between 1992 and 1996, more than all other bodies of water in the US combined. The next five most-polluted are: the Ohio River, the Brazos River in Texas, Connoquenessing Creek in Pennsylvania, the Pacific Ocean, and the Houston Ship Canal.
