The stonefish is the most poisonous fish in the world. Found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, stonefish have 13, protein based venomous spikes lining its back. Reaching 30-50 cm it lives in coral bottom areas, burying itself in the sand in wait for prey. If stepped on, the puncture can kill a human within hours.
The most dangerous fish to eat is a Japanese delicacy, the puffer fish. These fish have poisonous toxins, tetrodoxtin, inside and outside its body. Though toxins are removed during food prep, with 120 different kinds of puffer fish, not all chefs remove the toxins properly. Yearly 100 people die from eating puffer fish.
