Herring, Mackerel and Sardine are thought to be the oiliest fish to eat, plus they contain less toxins since they are small and have relatively short life spans (bioaccumulation of toxins needs time). Oily fish are said to prefer medium-deep or surface waters as a place to live (not deep sea).
