What is the most money someone has to pay for littering?

It depends on the littering laws in your state, but the fines can be pretty hefty in relation to how much you’ve littered. In the state of Washington, littering an amount greater than a cubic yard could result in $5000 and/or up to 1 year in jail. Funny story: in 1979, parts of the US space station fell across the Indian ocean and western Australia. NASA was fined $400 by Australia for the litter, a penalty that was never paid.
