According to the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, a fresh cow can produce 150 to 180 pounds of milk per day, or 17.4 to 20.0 gallons. Older cows generally produce more than younger cows. A cow must be milked twice a day in order to continue her milk production after giving birth.
