As a result of Tropical Storm Claudette, Alvin, Texas received 43 inches of rain in June of 1979. The storm created massive flooding in Texas and Louisiana, which caused $400 million in damages and at least one death. Compare that to the world’s heaviest rainfall, which occurred on Reunion Island in 1952, at 72 inches.
