What is the most inefficient type of energy that we produce?

It appears that hydrogen energy would be the most inefficient form of energy that we produce, based on current technology, at least.  With the limitations of methods for obtaining hydrogen being as they are, it actually takes more energy to produce power from hydrogen than the element is capable of providing.  In time, a new means of isolating hydrogen may be found that makes it worthwhile, but for now, that is simply not the case.
