What is the most important nutrient in the soil?

It is pretty hard, if not impossible to say which is the single most important nutrient in soil because without several almost all plants would suffer an unfortunate fate. Push come to shove, in the top of the list would have to be Nitrogen, because plants can generally only get that from the soil they are in; though another top candidate would have to be phosphorous.
