PCBs (Poly-chlorinated biphenyls), which are chlorinated oils, are at the top of UNIDO’s “Dirty Dozen” list. They are typically used in dielectric fluids, transformers, capacitor, and lubricants. PCBs do not break down in the environment.
Other “Dirty Dozen” chemicals include dioxins, furans, aldrin, dieldrin, DDT, endrin, chlordane, hexa chlorobenzene (HCB), mirex, toxaphene, and heptachlor.
