When checking to see if a laundry detergent is harmful for the environment, check to see if it contains bleach or phenol. There are alternatives, products that contain all natural ingredients. One brand that is eco-friendly is Seventh Generation.
Many laundry detergents contain the same main ingredients, so it’s difficult to pinpoint any one brand as most harmful to the environment. Although the brands’ labels may not advertise all the chemicals used in their products, many contain potentially harmful or hazardous chemicals such as petroleum distillates (or napthas), phenols.
Ther are several eco-friendly detergents on the market, such as Ecos, and it may even be possible to use homemade natural detergent for your laundry.
