General Motors is currently investing about 890 million dollars to fund making its V-8 engines more fuel efficient, so I suspect these will be the most fuel efficient engine that the company is going to make. These investments that GM is making are going to help the company increase the fuel efficiency of its pickup trucks, sport vehicles, and high performance vehicles. The new engines are apparently going to have aluminum blocks, “which are up to 100 pounds lighter than the current cast-iron ones on some GM V-8s and more efficient technology that injects fuel directly into the combustion chambers.”
While the Ford Volt is not in production, I would have to argue that what it promises is the most fuel efficient engine, since it combines electricity from hydrogen fuel cells with that of your traditional gasoline internal combustion engine to create a phenomenal fuel-economy.
