I would guess Hellen Keller is probably the most famous deaf person in American history. She has had books and plays written about her, and I would guess most elementary school students have learned about her.
The famous composer Beethoven’s hearing began to deteriorate in his 20s. His musical ability was so great that he was still able to compose even after he became completely deaf.
Inventor Thomas Edison had hearing problems as a result of a childhood illness.
