Greenwashing actually became a word in 1990 because of numerous polluting companies trying to pass themselves as eco-friendly. The list includes DuPont, Chevron, Bechtel, the American Nuclear Society, and the Society of Plastics Industry.
There are many famous examples of greenwashing. In my opinion the most popular case of greenwashing currently is probably British Petroleum. Their ads show a nature loving organization and all the smiley happy people live in a beautiful, pollution-free world. As we blatantly know now, all BP has ever done is pollute the planet with their oil products and their methods.
