Fortunately, of late many utilities have been environmentally friendly. Of particular note is Californian utilities, which are decoupled. That is, they don’t make money on how much energy they sell, but rather how much energy they don’t sell, so there is an incentive for them to cut production. Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is one utility that has made massive programs to cut energy consumption and expand renewable production.
