What is the most environmentally damaging part of making wine?

    There are several reasons the winemaking industry has been accused of risky enironmental practices.  Many vineyards use fungicides and insecticides which are not environmentally friendly.  Also, the use of non-biodegradable substances and fuels which increase carbon emissions are also commonplace.  One criticism of winemakers is that irrigation uses large amounts of water which could be put to other uses.
