The Monk Seal is a very endangered species of seal. The Mediterranean and Hawaiian Monk Seals are listed as critically endangered by the IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species. There are thought to be only 300-600 of Mediterraneans and 1300-1400 Hawaiian Monk Seals left. Their numbers are dwindling due to human distrurbances, fishing, and sharks.
