At the beginning of this year, a North Carolina company called Semprius says they developed the most efficient solar panel to date. The panel converts 33.9% of the sunlight that hits it into energy, nearly doubling the previous standard for efficiency. These panels take advantage of mirrors and lenses that magnify and intensify the sunlight before it hits the photovoltaic cell where the energy is stored. This is the first solar panel with the ability to capture a third of the suns energy as a usable resource. This discovery will be great for use on solar farms and homes alike.
