Energy Star qualified light bulbs are very energy efficient, using about 75% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs. They also last up to 6 times as long, and produce 75% less heat. The Environmental Protection Agency gives products the Energy Star label based on the amount of energy saved, availability and affordability for consumers, and efficacy of the product. Currently CFLs (compact fluorescent light bulbs) and LEDs (light emitting diode bulbs) are qualified as Energy Star.
