You could try a french press (but don’t use a microwave to boil the water). Another option is a coffee maker with a reusable metal filter (gold filters make much better coffee anyway) and a metal thermos-style pot. If your end goal is iced coffee, try a cold brew.
Probably the MOST eco-friendly way would be to toast the beans of your homegrown organic coffee plant in a passive solar oven, hand-grind them, use a french press (again with your solar oven) to press the coffee, and then drink it black because milk and sugar are both environmentally intensive. Like all other aspects of modern life, the most eco-friendly option can be hard to attain, and we should find the equilibrium point at which we aren’t expending too much effort for our desire.
