The most widely eaten fish in the world is Herring.
Herring is indeed the most widely eaten as it has 60 or so species and are eaten in all their stages, from canned sardines (baby herring) to the giant “herring king” called shad. Its numbers are unfortunately diminishing, perhaps due to this kind of demand.
Next on the list of most widely eaten fish in the world is cod, followed by mackerel and salmon.
