All cancers are dangerous because they have a high chance of metastising ( spreading into other unaffected organs) after primary treatment (either chemotherapy or radiation therapy). But the most dangerous form of cancer is mesothelioma. This is a cancer of the thin membranes that line the chest and abdomen caused due to exposure to asbestos fibres. The other kinds of deadly cancers are Liver,Pancreatic,Lung,Prostrate and Brain cancer. These kind of cancers are difficult to treat.
According to UK’s 2007 data, 155.484 people died because of cancer, 22% of them from lung cancer, 10% bowel cancer, 8% breast cancer, 7% prostate cancer and 53% of other cancers. The lung cancer is the most common and probably the biggest killer in absolute figures.
US data from 1970 – 1994 point also towards the lung cancer being the most common type with 69% for men, while women have 27% breast and 24% lung cancer.
Lung cancer is by far the deadliest form of cancer. The disease kills around 160,000 people in America a year – more than breast, colon, and prostate cancer combined. Survival rates have not improved in decades with nearly 60 percent of patients dying with a year of diagnosis and around 85 percent of patients dying within 5 years.
Any type of cancer can be deadly, if it becomes very serious and widespread in the body. However, some cancers are more prevalent than others. In the US, lung cancer is by far the most common and deadly cancer. Colon and rectal cancers are next, followed by breast cancer in women.
