With a large amount of the population living on coastlines, the biggest threat posed by rising sea levels is to human infrastructure. Many major cities are located on coastlines at about sea level. This leaves all associated roads, services and buildings at risk. Not only does this mean millions of homes and jobs, but also essential structure such as bridges, water treatment facilities, and sewage facilities.
