According to the most recent article I could find (June, 2011), Celery remains at the top of the list of most contaminated vegetables with 95% of samples containing pesticides. This was according to results published by the Environmental Working Group in their Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce, which covers both fruits and vegetables. Overall, celery was ranked second, after apples. Other high-ranking veggies were spinach, sweet bell peppers, potatoes, lettuce and kale.
Vegetables that are considered to have a “soft-skin” are typically the most contaminated ones. Celery, peppers, and lettuce are at the top of the list for being the most pesticide-contaminated veggies. The FDA reccommends washing all vegetables with warm water and then drying them with paper towel.
