Many smaller fresh water lakes, particularly those in low lying or wetlands are dominated by the growth of plants from the genus of Typha. Commonly known in the US as cattails, these large aquatic plants are known for their large stalks and hot dog shaped tips that expel their seeds. They grow extremely fast in wet conditions and can cover entire bodies of water and the surrounding areas.
