Small pieces of plastic are the most commonly found trash in the North Pacific Gyre. Found in the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii, this is the largest gyre on earth and contains more than 3.5 million tons of trash. Here, plastic particles outnumber zoo plankton 40:1 and there are six pounds of plastic for each pound of algae.
