You should check out the rest of the list, it’s quite and has some alarming facts. It doesn’t surprise me at all that the U.S. is a world leader in the production of genetically modified crops. Other major producers are Argentina (known for their biotech soybeans) and Canada (their biotech crop is canola). A statistic from 2003 reports that out of the entire global land area for biotechnology food crops, the U.S. came in first with 63%. Argentina accounted for 34.4% and Canada at 10.9%.
