The hadrosaur Maiasaura is said to be the most common dinosaur fossil. This species is so common that paleontologists are fine with simply moving along to the next dig and leaving it there in the dirt when found. For paleontologists, finding new species of dinosaurs is top priority in addition to digging up complete or near complete fossilized skeletons (Gittleson, 2009).
