Heart disease is the most common cause of death worldwide in both low and high income cultures. There are some interesting contrasts between the two cultures. In high income countries, lung cancer came in at number 3 (didn’t make top 10 in low income cultures). Likewise, AIDS/HIV ranked 4th in low income countries while failing to make top 10 in high income countries. Colon/rectum caner, Alzheimer’s, Type 2 diabetes, breast cancer, and stomach cancer were all also in the top 10 for high-income countries and newborn conditions, diarrhea, TB, malaria, and road traffic accidents more greatly affect low and middle-income countries.
