Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth (it is the number 1 metal found in the Earth’s crust). However, it is almost never found free in nature. It combines with other elements to create compounds.
See this website for more common elements on Earth:
Aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earth’s crust, but almost certainly iron is the most abundant metal in the whole earth. There is very little aluminum in the mantle and core.
Aluminum is the most common metal on earth’s crust, but it is followed closely by Iron. Iron is the most common metal throughout the rest of the earth just as rigibson mentioned. Here are a few links where you can learn more about the metallic composition of earth.
It might be helpful to make the distinction between the most abundant metal and the most abundant metal that can actually be used. Yes, iron is the most abundant in the earth, but we can’t get to it while it is in the mantle and the core. That being said, aluminum is the must abundant metal that we can access, and makes up over 8% of the crust. It is also the third most abundant metal in the crust.
