The most common fish in the ocean is the Cyclothone (and its various subspecies).  The Cyclothone swims in deep waters, 500 ft from the surface and deeper, and is therefore rarely seen by humans who aren’t specifically looking for it.  It is about the size of a minnow, and is nicknamed “bristle mouth.”
