Loons often nest in the summer months in Minnesota. Unfortunately nesting sites are being diminished because of shoreline developement. It is important not to approach loons, or fish near their nests. The adults can panic and run off abandoning their young. One of the most amazing thing about loons is their diving ability. Because of their dense bones, they are capable of diving up to 200 ft and staing submerged for up to ten minutes.
