The Mexican government plans to cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2050. The new auto emissions policy will include a limit on imports of inefficient used cars, according to Mexico’s Energy Ministry. The Ministry wants to limit the amount of used cars on its streets and in its car market, so as to decrease harmful carbon emissions from exhaust pipes. Their is much speculation that these efforts will be followed by a national auto emissions standard. Ministry officials claim that the country is likely to adopt fuel efficiency standards that will be compatible with those recently introduced in the US.
