As you know, meiosis is the division of gamete cells or sex cells, and several combinatios of gametes are possible. The mathematical expression for meiosis is based on the number of chromosomes an organism has. For each chromosome in meiosis, there are 2^n possible combinations. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, so our expression is 2^23. When sperm and egg unite, this possible combinations of chromosomes increases to (2^23)^2.
