The “Stadthaus” as it is called is nine storeys tall, making it the tallest residential timber building in the world. Additionally, it is the tallest timber structure with load-bearing walls, floor slabs, stairs, and elevator cores made entirely of timber. It is located in London.
The tower, which was announced three years ago and finally finished in September, is unique because of its material. Located in London, the building is entirely made of pre-fabricated cross-laminated timber panels (CLTs), which are manufactured from sustainable harvested timber. The wood is fire resistant, unlike steel, which becomes weaker as the temperature increases. What makes the building such a green innovation is the energy saved by using the CLTs instead of concrete; approximate 300 tons of carbon dioxide!
