What makes some stars so much more bright than others?

there are two factors used to determine the brightness of a start:
Luminosity: how much energy a star puts out at a given time
Distance: how far a star is from us

As it turns out, the more massive a star, the more energy it puts out, which means it is more luminous, even than a smaller star at the same temperature.
