What makes pavement green?

There is “green” pavement, which is ecologically friendly pavement that is porous and therefore lets water seep into the ground. Water that runs off normal impervious pavement sends mini streams into the wrong areas of town and can cause unnatural erosion in some neighborhoods. However pavement that is actually the color green, is from certain kinds of mosses, algae, and lichen. These are oftentimes power-sprayed with water to remove them. Although some people want to grow a beautiful moss garden on old broken pieces of cement for fun!
