Looking at solid waste that gets picked up by trash trucks, the biggest percentage, 32.7%, of it is made up of paper and cardboard products (and that doesn’t even count wallboard and toilet paper). This is a shame, since in most regions there is some form of paper recycling, but we also recycle more than half of the paper products we use. We just use a lot of paper. Other high rankers include food scraps at 12.5%, and glass/metal/plastic/wood, each at 5-12%.
