Jatropha is a good plant for biofuel for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is economical in the parts of the world where it is abundant (Pakistan and India). Also, it does not require pristine soil conditions to grow well in, and requires little water. Finally, jatropha yields four times as much fuel per hectare as the soybean, and the residue from the biodiesel process can be used as biomass for electricity, and also can serve as a fertilizer.
