What makes the difference between a pond and a lake?

While both lakes and ponds are inland bodies of water, a lake is a natural body of water and a pond is man-made. Therefore, lakes are often considerably bigger than ponds. Lakes tend to be teaming with more aquatic life and are self-sufficient. The ponds which man has built must also be maintained by man to stay alive.
