Bamboo cutting boards (and other bamboo products) are good for the environment because of their renewability. They grow very fast (reach harvesting height within 3-5 years of planting) and when they are cut down they do not need to be replanted, the root system just sends up another shoot. They are also stronger than wood and lighter than wood, so shipping costs are always better on the environment if things are lighter.
Bamboo products are awesome. Bamboo matures in 3.5 – 7 years, grows without pesticides and does not require a lot of water. It is like a weed. Upon growing so quickly ( foot a day), they consume CO2 gases much more readily. Like stated, it is self-propagating, which is a huge plus.
