What is the main source of food for alligators?

    Alligators feed primarily on fish, snakes, turtles, and small mammals.

    Depending on their size alligators will eat anything form a frog to a deer. Alligators will pretty much eat anything at comes across their path as they lay in wait silently underwater. Mostly what they catch are fish (in particular gar), turtles, and small mammals.
