What is the main obstacle holding up mass electric vehicle production?

Essentially, there hasn’t been enough demand. At periods of very high gas prices, demand goes up. But as long as the price of gas still ebbs and flows so too will the demands of consumers. Until there really isn’t any oil, there really won’t be any demand. Other than that, car makers could be making electric vehicles. Expense, lack of government incentives, and technology issues also play their part in this discussion but if the demand was there, automakers would make it happen.
