Green or sustainable homes take advantage of alternative energy, placement for use of wind and solar power, recycled water or alternative water treatments, low energy appliances etc. All of these contribute to low energy consumption leading to low to no carbon emissions.

A home with conventional energy and water systems lead to carbon emissions being let into the atmosphere and the potential for wasted energy on heating water or heating and cooling a home.

The main difference that a sustainable home makes is that it takes advantage of the natural resources surrounding a home and does everything it can to lower its energy consumption.
