the main cause of ocean pollution is littering and humans. our streams and rivers flow into the ocean, carrying plastic bottles and waste that cant easily be decomposed. once these reach the ocean, they just sit there. as of now there is a large trash vortex in the pacific because of this.
According to the NOAA, one of the biggest is nonpoint source pollution which occurs as a result of runoff from the land. This type of pollution includes small and large sources such as septic tanks, boats, and motor vehicles. The NOAA states that 80% of marine pollution comes from the land.
