         High blood pressure and diabetes are responsible for two-thirds of the cases of chronic kidney disease. Other causes include glomerolunephtritis (a disease that causes inflammation), inherited diseases such as polycystic kidney disease, and lupus. Twenty-six million Americans have chronic kidney disease.
