How many have to be left.
In order for an animal or plant to be placed on the endangered species list, a long process must first ensue. It’s not so dependent on a magic number as it is a series of criteria, which include the following:
-the present or threatened destruction, modification, or curtailment of its habitat or range;
-overutilization for commercial, recreational, scientific, or educational purposes;
-disease or predation;
-the inadequacy of existing regulatory mechanisms;
-the natural or manmade factors affecting its survival.
Rather than magic numbers, it’s all a matter of meticulous, weighted criteria as projected by the field’s authority, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and its Red List.
